Passport Photos at Home, Ready to Print

Photo booths and studios charge for something you can do with a phone and a printer. Take a well-lit photo against any wall, let the tool replace the background and crop it to the exact size, then print a 6×4 sheet of copies at any photo shop for a fraction of the price.

How to Make a Passport Photo at Home

  1. Upload a front-facing photo. Use a photo taken in even light, looking straight at the camera, with a neutral expression.
  2. Choose the photo size. Pick the size for your country or document: 35×45 mm, 2×2 in, 50×70 mm or 33×48 mm.
  3. Replace the background. Keep background replacement on to get a plain white or light background, or turn it off if your photo already has one.
  4. Frame your face. Use the zoom and position sliders until your head fits the dashed guide oval.
  5. Download. Download the single photo for online forms, or the 6×4 print sheet to print at a photo shop.

Tips for a Photo That Gets Accepted

  • Face the camera straight on, with your head level and both ears visible where required.
  • Use soft, even light from the front, so there are no shadows on your face or behind you.
  • Keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed and eyes open.
  • Remove glasses unless the rules allow them, and avoid hats or anything covering your face.
  • Have someone else take the photo from about 1.5 m away, rather than a close selfie.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size is a passport photo?

It depends on the country. 35 × 45 mm is used by the UK, the Schengen area and many other countries. The US uses 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm). Canada uses 50 × 70 mm, and Chinese visas use 33 × 48 mm. Always check the official requirements for the document you're applying for.

How do I print passport photos cheaply?

Download the 6×4 print sheet and print it as a standard 6×4 inch (10×15 cm) photo at a photo kiosk or online print service, at 100% scale with no cropping. One sheet holds eight 35 × 45 mm photos or six US 2 × 2 in photos, which you then cut out along the guide lines.

What resolution are the photos?

300 DPI, the standard for photo printing. A 35 × 45 mm photo is 413 × 531 pixels, and a 2 × 2 inch photo is 600 × 600 pixels.

Will my photo be accepted?

This tool gets the size, resolution and background right, but acceptance also depends on things it can't check: lighting, focus, expression, head position, glasses and how recent the photo is. Follow the official rules when taking the photo and check it against them before you submit.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Background replacement uses an AI model that runs in your browser, and the photo is resized and laid out on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.

Can I use it for online applications?

Yes. Download the single photo for online forms. Some portals set their own pixel size or file size limits; if so, resize the downloaded photo with the Image Resizer or compress it with the Image Compressor.
